The aim of the work was to obtain nano fibrous structures from biodegradable polymer with the addition of hydroxyapatite using electrospinning technique. Research was conducted with two types of solvent: dichloromethane and 50:50 mixture of dimethyl sulfoxide and dichloromethane. As a polymer a copolymer of L-lactide and glycolide (PLGA), commercial product with trade name Resomer®LG 824, was used. The preliminary electrospinning tests enabled to match optimal polymer solution concentration of tested samples. Rheological properties of all tested polymer solutions has been determined. Influence of electrospinning conditions and the type of solvent on macroscopic structure has been investigated.

Surface modification of cotton fabrics for sublimation printing

The use of sublimation thermal transfer printing onto cotton is not widely practiced because of the lack of disperse dyes affinity for cellulose fibres. The studies were performed onto polymer application on cotton fibres in order to achieve the ability to absorption of sublimating dyes and thus the possibility of making printouts onto cotton. The following parameters were evaluated: whiteness degree after impregnation, the relative strength of colours of the obtained printouts, test washing fastness, and dry and wet rubbing fastness.

Pressure and comfort perception in the system “female body–dress"

The three-dimensional (3D) Garment virtual technology is expected to help the designers to turn own trends and ideas into the creative samples more quickly with 3D simulation and the visualization of the pressure values and stress points where the fabric might be too tight against the body. The aim of this study is to present the wearer perceptions of woven fabric in 22 anthropometrical points located on the women torso, which can then be helpful to accurately predict the ease and tightness of a garment in 3D Garment virtual try-on system.

For establishing the common principles joining the eases value designed on pattern block and the pressure perception in the system “body–dress”, we took the experiment with the women using Flexiforce Sensor® and ELF® system concerning the woman dresses with sleeve-in as the basic garment category. The objective pressure measured on seven levels of woman torso wearing the dresses designed by different ease distribution. All points and levels of the pressure measuring reflected to the daily movements, and the results obtained were compared with the corresponding subjective comfort perception from the wearer. The relationship between the ease values designed on 2D pattern and the pressure perception from the wearer were analysed to supply the theoretical reference for 3D virtual try-on system improvement.

Properties of modified carboxymethyl cellulose prepared by lyophilisation

This study deals with the change of selected properties of samples of modified carboxymethyl cellulose after freeze drying. The investigated properties were changes in thickness, permeability, water sorption, thermal area resistance and thermal absorbing capacity. The prepared materials were evaluated by scanning electron microscopy. The product of presented technology has large internal surface, high wettability and biodegradability. It is nontoxic with high potential in biological applications.

Chinese Paternalistic Leadership and Leadership Effectiveness in Textile Industry

The textile industry at one time, used to be one of the key industries in the economic development of Taiwan. Nevertheless, this labour- and time-intensive activity resulted in those employed in the industry not being able to devote adequate attention to both the family and business, that resulted in the enterprises being shipped out to other parts of labour-intensive Southeast Asia. This study aims to discuss the correlations between Chinese paternalistic leadership and organisational commitment, leadership effectiveness in the textile industry, and understanding the effects of supervisor–subordinate guanxi . Using quantitative questionnaire surveys, the supervisors and employees in 398 textile-related businesses in Taiwan, including 137 textile factories, 98 dyeing and finishing factories and 153 clothing factories, are studied. After applying hierarchical regression analysis to analysing the data, it is found that moral and benevolent leadership do not enforce as much obedience and performance as authoritarian leadership does. Instead, their loyalties are based on the “heart” of the employees to enhance their commitment to the organisation, by which the supervisor–subordinate guanxi could effectively adjust strong-arm leadership and the attitude of the employees. Therefore, it is suggested that Chinese supervisors should adopt benevolent leadership, maintain favourable guanxi with the employees, and improve the work atmosphere.

Effect of sewing parameters and wash type on the dimensional stability of knitted garments

The aim of this research is to study the effect of clothing manufacturing parameters, that is, stitch type, stitch density, sewing thread type and washing type on the dimensional stability of single jersey knitted garment. Single jersey bleached fabric, made from Ne 32 cotton combed ring spun yarn, was used to make 32 medium size crew neck T-shirts selecting two levels of stitch type, stitch density, sewing thread type and wash type according to the experimental design. After constructing the garments, four critical measurements of each garment, that is, body length, body width, across shoulder and sleeve length were measured. The constructed garments were divided into two equal groups. One group was washed with water and the other group was washed using a detergent. After washing, drying and tumbling, the same critical measurements of each garment were taken and the percent shrinkage was calculated. Analysis of data was done on responses of output variables against the input variables using MINITAB. The results showed that three input variables: stitch type, stitch density and garment wash type have significant effect on all the output variables.

Langmuir isotherm models applied to the sorption of acid dyes from effluent onto polyamide nanofibers

The ability of polyamide 6 nanofibers membrane (P6NM) to remove acid dyes from effluent solution by adsorption has been studied. Equilibrium isotherms for the adsorption of three acid dyes, Acid blue 41 (AB41), Acid blue 78 (AB78), and Acid yellow 42 (AY42), on P6NM were measured experimentally. Simulated wastewater of acid dyes with the concentration of 10 mg/L for sorption process electrospun polyamide 6 with mass per unit area 12 g/m2 was used as the sorbent material. Ten sets of P6NM were dipped in separate simulated effluent. The weight of the original P6NM and the concentration of left solution were detected. Results were analyzed by the Langmuir equation using a linearized correlation coefficient. And it showed that all the dyes tested could follow the Langmuir adsorption isotherm, which gave excellent correlation for all the dyes.
